Jesse Lee is the worst!

He’s a multi-millionaire, triple-platinum-selling, Grammy-Award-winning man-slut—a worldly, self-indulgent heathen. I wouldn’t sleep with him if he were our last chance to ensure survival of the human race. The only reason I put up with him is because he’s my boss’s brother.

Whatsherface is one of those holier-than-thou types.

She’s bossy, has a horrific singing voice, and she’s so ordinary, she practically blends in with the eggshell-colored walls—the complete opposite of anyone I’d bang. The only reason I put up with her is because my career is on the line.

Playing by Heart is an enemies-to-lovers romance where opposites not only attract, they ignite.

Very sweet and fun read!

Soooooo, I’ve kind of been on a reading hiatus but Playing by Heart was the book that lured me back in. It was just what I was in the mood for – a romance with just the right amount of sexy. Even though I don’t typically enjoy the whole rockstar / bad boy genre I really did get into this I really enjoyed reading it.

You guys all know I’m a very serious spoiler-phobe. So when I tell you that the plot was kind of predictable here I’m actually not ruining anything, because my friends, I would not do that to you. The point of the story is to enjoy the ride. The interaction between Jesse and Bethany – two people that seemed as though they are opposites – was entertaining and adorable from the very start. This story will have your heart aflutter and you won’t be able to help but smile OR put the book down. 😉

Jesse, at first, is your typical bad boy rocker. No shortage of confidence, good looks, drugs, booze and women. Of course this is a recipe for disaster and not sustainable. We meet him as he begins to head towards rock bottom. But just as it seems his career might be done, his path crosses with Bethany, someone that you wouldn’t initially expect him to become friends with. However, she is just what he needs to shake up his life and get him back on track.

Bethany is lovely. I liked her – so don’t get me wrong – but I never really connected with her 100%. I enjoy when I can put myself in the shoes of the heroin because I like to pretend that I am her, but it just didn’t happen with Bethany. She was a bit of a churchgoer, and although a few times that alluded to something she done her past I just knew it wasn’t *that* bad. She was a bit of a goody two shoes and while I am no wild person myself, there’s something about her that just seemed kind of bland. Jesse on the other hand, had never really been around anyone that didn’t always tell him exactly what he wanted to hear, so it was refreshing and made for something very real.

The conflict – oh yeah, I could see that coming from a mile away. However it didn’t make me want to throw my kindle, I just kept reading because I needed to see exactly how Bethany and Jesse would get through it. It really was all about the journey – that’s what made this story so enjoyable.

The romance was adorable. I didn’t find it sexy although they had sexy times. I just could not see Bethany beyond a long skirt Bible holding girl.

While this story is a bit of a fluffy romance, I have to say that the writing is excellent and I really felt as if I was right there with the characters. I became vested and a part of the town and involved with everyone. I really hope there’s a book for Ashleigh and Ben!!

Rec this? Yes! If you love a good romance that makes your heart happy, this is a great read!

Happy reading!
