Sydney is living in an idyllic bubble—she's a dedicated student with a steady job on the side. She lives with her best friend, has a great boyfriend, and the music coming from the balcony opposite hers is fast becoming the soundtrack to her life. But when Sydney finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her, the bubble bursts. The mysterious and attractive man behind the music, Ridge, gives Sydney hope that she can move on and they begin to write songs together. But moving on is harder than she expects, Sydney can only hope….
Maybe someday…
Colleen Hoover draws you in to this passionate tale of music, love and betrayal…
I am super late to the party on this one!! After all, it was released 2 1/2 years ago. But I’d heard some stuff about it and I’d made some judgements…and it kept me from picking it up. So it sat on my kindle until now. I guess this is the part where I admit that I’m sorry I waited. I should never doubt Ms. Hoover’s ability to make me think, to make me feel, and to make me question what I think I believe.
This is a book about love. It’s a book about conflicted feelings and a book about loyalty. It challenges the reader’s ideas and, even if you don’t agree with the characters’ decisions, you still somehow understand. As least, that’s what happened to me. Sydney is a smart, intelligent girl who’s just been cheated on by her boyfriend of 2 years. Ridge is sweet and sexy, strong and kind. He’s a musician with a big heart. Together, they discover a bond so strong that it has them questioning their beliefs and acting, at times, unlike themselves. Their struggle is real and it’s difficult. And, as they deal with their emotional battles, so do the readers. The trials they face are ones that the reader needs to come to terms with…what would I do, what would I say, how would I react?
This book asks moral questions that shake up the characters and are unsettling for readers like me. But, in the end, I was captivated by this story. Whether it was because I fell completely in love with the characters, or because I adored their ability to be truthful in their communications (completely unheard of in books today), or because I will always root for love…I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. There’s so much more I wish I could tell you about this book but, in this case, you definitely have to experience it yourself. I don’t want to ruin this for you but I do need you to know that Ridge won my heart, the story made me feel deeply, and, once again, Ms. Hoover gives her readers a unique and beautiful story!
