Everyone at Hundred Oaks High knows that career mentoring day is a joke. So when Maya Henry said she wanted to be a rock star, she never imagined she’d get to shadow *the* Jesse Scott, Nashville’s teen idol.

But spending the day with Jesse is far from a dream come true. He’s as gorgeous as his music, but seeing all that he’s accomplished is just a reminder of everything Maya’s lost: her trust, her boyfriend, their band, and any chance to play the music she craves. Not to mention that Jesse’s pushy and opinionated. He made it on his own, and he thinks Maya’s playing back up to other people’s dreams. Does she have what it takes to follow her heart—and go solo?

Ana and Celeste will put Jesse’s Girl on their 2nd shelf

Celeste: 4.5 stars Oh I loved this! Jesse’s Girl was one of those stories that was pure magic for me.  It was magic for many reasons, but mostly because of how it made me feel. I felt young and totally found myself falling in love…and that’s because Ms. Kenneally’s words transported me from page 1. Jesse and Maya’s story totally drew me in, and without even realizing it I found that I so effortlessly got absorbed and didn’t stop reading until I was done…right there, that tells me it’s a top notch book, that tells me the author has a really special gift.

I loved Jesse. As in absolutely adored him and swooned over him unapologetically. I loved his broodiness, his tenderness and his youthfulness, too. I loved that he was so guarded, but really, once he knew someone was trustworthy he held his arms and heart wide open for them and I wanted to fall right into those smexy arms.

So confession here…I am never a huge fan of punk girls when they are the main character in a story…but I simply loved Maya. She was fierce, yet not abrasive. I loved her blossoming confidence and my heart squeezed as I saw her grow and reach for her dreams. I loved how her story was so real, there wasn’t false hope that she was amazing, but her talent was full of potential.

The romance was sweet and tender and the kisses were amazing. And soft. And intimate. And did I mention amazing? This definitely went fade to black once I felt the moment really heat up and almost need to fan myself, but still enough sexy so greedy readers like myself walked away super happy. ;)

I have to mention the cover. While it’s a great cover the boots aren’t purple…whoops to whoever picked it! However, it certainly caught my eye and was what drew me to the book in the first place even if it’s not accurate.

Rec this? YES a million times over. If you love a sweet YA romance that makes your heart flutter this is a must for your TBR. I adored Miranda Kenneally’s writing style and can’t wait to read another of her stories (which I’m going to jump into right now!).

Happy reading!

Ana: 4 stars.  Maya Henry’s dream is falling apart around her.  The band she worked so hard to build has dumped her and, as if that’s not enough, the guy she likes has also moved on.  But, as sometimes happens in life, when a door closes another one opens.  Maya is given the opportunity to shadow Jesse, a popular country music star for a day…a chance that she feels both nervous and excited about.  Jesse is famous and rich…and sad and lonely.  He can’t trust those around him and longs to be accepted by his family.  The day these two spend together gives them more than they expected and helps both on their road towards their futures.

2nd ShelfThis is my first Miranda Kenneally book and I really enjoyed the flow, the storyline and the writing.  Even though some of the issues faced by the characters were difficult, the story felt light and brought a smile to my face more than once.  I love me a country boy and really enjoyed Jesse’s southern charm as well as his bad boyish attitude.  On the outside, Maya and Jesse are very different but, as the story progresses, we realize that they really are very similar…they want their families, they want music and they want love in their lives.  The story provides the reader with a sweet, light read where, even thought the romance seems a bit rushed, you don’t mind it because it’s fun and well written.  Overall, it’s a feel-good read!
