He was just a boy.
And I was just a girl.
But if that’s all there was to the story it wouldn’t be very interesting, would it?

Up and coming band Willow Creek is back in their hometown for the summer. For the drummer, Maddox Wade, this summer was meant for writing music and playing gigs.

Falling in love was not part of the plan.

One look at Emma Burke and those plans cease to matter.

Emma is quiet and guarded. She’s still hurt from her father walking out two years ago. She doesn’t want to trust Maddox, but with his dark hair, smoldering good looks, and infectious smile he’s impossible to resist.

Together Maddox and Emma embark on an unforgettable summer of adventures and first love.
Everything is perfect…or so Emma thinks.

There are things she doesn’t know, and when she finds out the truth it might shatter everything she’s built with Maddox.

No one said love was easy, and for Maddox and Emma it just might be impossible.

Ana will put Last to Know on her top shelf!!top-shelf-250-x-275

Let me start with the brutal truth.  When you read this book, you, “the reader”, will know who and what Maddox is right away.  You will also beg him to tell Emma the truth.  You will understand, of course, when he doesn’t and so you will wait for what you know is coming.  Your heart will beat wildly when it does and you will sigh and utter the words “Oh Maddox, why???”  Then you will predict the end and move forward.  So…you might think that knowing all of this would ruin the story for you.  After all, how could it not?  Well, I’m here to tell you it won’t.  Trust me, it will only increase the beating of your heart and your desire to turn the pages faster.  Why?

Well…Maddox, Emma, and the rest of the characters are fantastic.  The writing is wonderful.  The romance is sweet.  The storyline is great.  And that’s not all…

This book and it’s characters drew me in and won my heart from the beginning.  I had a smile permanently plastered on my face and felt the giddiness one feels when love is blossoming.  This book took me back to first true loves.  The relationship between these two was equal parts innocent and sizzling.  There’s no doubt in my mind that they’re perfect for each other.  I watched Emma grow from a shy, insecure young lady to someone strong and fierce.  I watched her face some of her fears and deal with sadness.  I watched her fall in love.  I saw Maddox’s cocky and sure side and I was treated to his more confused and scared side.  I watched them deal with the noise of the outside world and, ultimately, figure out what was right for them.  This is the kind of story that makes your heart grow two sizes!

I’ve said this before and it bears repeating.  If an author treats secondary characters with as much care and respect as her primary ones, then I will love the story even more.  This definitely happens here.  We are not only introduced to Mathias, Ezra and Hayes, Maddox’s friends and band mates, but we also learn about them and see how much of a family they are.  I loved them immediately and wished right away that there would be books for each of them (spoiler alert…there will be).  I enjoyed seeing Emma interact with her quirky mom and I even fell in love with a hedgehog.  Truly, this book has it all.

So…would I recommend it?  Of course.  Go get this book and lose yourself in Emma and Maddox’s love story.  I guarantee that you’ll come out of it with a happy heart and a smile on your face.  And, really…what more could you want?!?
